Down the TBR Hole

Mini Reviews-4

It’s time for another edition of Down the TBR Hole, which is hosted by Lia @ Lost in a Story! This meme is dedicated to uncluttering your TBR pile, going through each book and choosing which one should stay or go.

The Books:

1. The Memory Book by Lara Avery

25988934

I feel like I’ve read this story before. Girl gets ill, goes on long journey to finally do the things she feared, patch up relationships with those she wronged, etc. It doesn’t interest me one bit. Right now I’m all about the dark fantasy books and super adorable romances. Maybe I’ll want to read this at a later date? *shrugs*

The Verdict: Remove

2. After the Fall by Kate Hart

22847526

I applaud the author for tackling so many difficult issues but I’m just not sure this book is for me (at least not right now). Reading the description doesn’t give me a must-read-this-right-now feeling. I do love the sky in the cover though. *sigh* Goodbye book!

The Verdict: Remove

3. Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

22247695

I recently finished reading Anna and the French Kiss and LOVED IT!!!! I’m really hoping this one is just as adorable. Why has it taken me so long to discover this series?

The Verdict: Keep

4. The Way to Game the Walk of Shame by Jenn P. Nguyen

25721507

I love the fake boyfriend trope! This book caught my eye ages ago and seeing it pop up on my TBR totally reminded me of why I originally wanted to read it. It stays!

The Verdict: Keep

5. Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Reigate

26240663

Seven points of view?!?! While that worries me, I did really enjoy Riley Reigate’s other book Noteworthy so I’m going to give this one a chance. Plus, the reviews seem to be quite positive. Fingers crossed!

The Verdict: Keep

The Books:

1. Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor

32968540

I have absolutely loved the first two books in the Binti trilogy and now want to start exploring more of Nnedi Okorafor’s back catalog. The cover is stunning and the synopsis is unlike anything I’ve heard before. So, this book is definitely staying on my TBR!

The Verdict: Keep

2. Ms. Marvel, Vol. 3: Crushed by G. Willow Wilson

23546843

This. Series. Is. Awesome!!!!! The first two volumes were tons of fun and this one features Loki. LOKI!!! I can’t wait to read about the trouble he’s going to cause.

The Verdict: Keep

3. Shadowbound by Bec McMaster

30152125

Ahhh…another book on my Goodreads TBR that I don’t remember adding. Maybe I saw it on another blog? I don’t know! It sounds alright but honestly I just want to keep books I’m either really interested in reading or know I’ll enjoy.

The Verdict: Remove

4. The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler

22840182

A retelling of the Little Mermaid? Oooh…I’m interested for sure! I downloaded this book at the beginning of the year and do really want to read it soon. I’m totally loving romance heavy books right now. They make my little heart so happy 🙂

The Verdict: Keep

5. Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Reigate

26240663

Seven points of view?!?! While that worries me, I did really enjoy Riley Reigate’s other book Noteworthy so I’m going to give this one a chance. Plus, the reviews seem to be quite positive. Fingers crossed!

This seems to be getting harder and harder each week! Only one book removed this time around. Ugh oh!

The Books:

1. The Freemason’s Daughter by Shelley Sackier

26848834

This book is described as “The Outlander series for the YA audience” on Goodreads which both worries and intrigues me. I love the Outlander series but I’ve seen this comparison made before and found myself utterly disappointed. However, I just can’t help myself. I need to read it to find out.

The Verdict: Keep

2. Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham

24382227

This book sound intensely powerful. It’s about the Race Riot in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1921. Unfortunately, racism, discrimination and violence due to prejudice and hatred still happen daily across the US and the world. I don’t know very much about this particular event but want to read this book to discover more.

The Verdict: Keep

3. The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles

29566060

This book sounded awesome when I added it to my TBR earlier this year. Now, not so much. I have no interest in reading it whatsoever. Goodbye!

The Verdict: Remove

4. Summer of Blood: The Peasants’ Revolt of 1381 by Dan Jones

6435078

I LOVE DAN JONES! I just finished another book of his and he has helped reignite my love of history. I used to enjoy reading history books but university kind of killed it for me. He just has a way to make everything come to life. ❤

The Verdict: Keep

5. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

15749186

I really need to read this series! Everyone I know has recommend this book to me. I just haven’t picked it up. I do plan on reading it real soon over my summer break. I need to see what all the fuss is about!

The Verdict: Keep

I only removed 1 book this week but I’m quite happy with the ones that I have decided to keep. Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them?

Down the TBR Hole

Mini Reviews-4

I forgot to do one last week! Things just got so busy but I’m back this week with another edition of Down the TBR Hole, which is hosted by Lia @ Lost in a Story! This meme is dedicated to uncluttering your TBR pile, going through each book and choosing which one should stay or go.

The Books:

1. Dark Angels by Karleen Koen

393473

So, before I got really into YA books and rediscovered my love for all things fantasy I basically only read historical fiction. I love history. I studied it at university and have taught it to high school students. But I really don’t understand why I ever added this book to my TBR. I honesty am not interested in Charles II or his Restoration court. So…goodbye book!

The Verdict: Remove

2. The Black Book by Ian Rankin

77489

I discovered this series while living in Edinburgh. It was so cool to read about locations I had just visited earlier that day. I devoured the first four books and then moved home and forgot about them. I have a copy of The Black Book sitting on my shelf and really want to get back into the series. It was so good!

The Verdict: Keep

3. The Traitor Queen by Trudi Canavan

12970162

This is the third book is a series but I feel like I’m missing out by not picking up on of Trudi Canavan’s fantasy books. I have so many of them on my TBR and the reviews look great. But of course I can’t start at the end of trilogy! So, this needs to be removed for now.

The Verdict: Remove

4. The Queen’s Fool by Philippa Gregory

252499

Yes, these books are sometimes overly dramatic and not really historically correct, but I love how they focus on the women of the Tudor court. I can’t believe I haven’t read this yet. Seriously! I have loved every Philippa Gregory books I’ve read so far.

The Verdict: Keep

5. His Last Letter: Elizabeth I and the Earl of Leicester by Jeane Westin

7201153

I didn’t really enjoy the author’s previous book (I gave it a 1.5 star rating). I love all things Elizabeth I but I’m really going to have to pass on this one.

The Verdict: Remove

Three more books removed from my TBR! Woo! Have you read any of these books? I’d love to hear your thoughts or opinions on them.

Down the TBR Hole

Wow! The week went by so quickly. How is it Sunday already?!?! Here’s another edition of Down the TBR Hole, which is hosted by Lia @ Lost in a Story! This meme is dedicated to uncluttering your TBR pile, going through each book and choosing which one should stay or go.

The Books:

1. Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra Dhonielle Clayton

18710209

I’ve heard soooooo many good things about this book on Twitter! It features a diverse cast and backstabbing ballerinas. Oh the drama! But in all seriousness the book also tackles very important issues such as racism, sexism, body image and white privilege. I’m definitely going to be picking this up during my summer break.

The Verdict: Keep

2. She Is Not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick

17839197

I don’t remember adding this book to my TBR but I know for sure it’s not for me. Last year I tried to read another book by Sedgwick, Blood Red, Snow White, and absolutely hated it. It put it down after struggling through 30% of it. The style, the narrative voice, it did nothing for me. I felt no connection with it and I just couldn’t stay interested.

The Verdict: Remove

3. Secrets in the Snow by Michaela MacColl

28645639

A book about Jane Austen that includes romance and a murder mystery?!?! YESSSS! YESSS! YESSS! I’m down for anything Austen related and this book sounds so good. Why haven’t I read it yet?

The Verdict: Keep

4. Remember Me Forever by Sara Wolf

31308682

This is the third book in a series I didn’t like. It just had too much unrealistic drama. Wanting to constantly slap characters is never a good thing! So…this is definitely being removed from my TBR. Why keep a book you know you won’t like?

The Verdict: Remove

5. A Terrible Beauty by Tasha Alexander

28220795

This is another instance of how did this end up on my TBR? I haven’t read any other books in the series. At first I thought it was from when I first joined Goodreads. I would just add every book to my list but this was published in 2016. So strange!

The Verdict: Remove

Three seems to be my magic number! Have you read any of these books? I’d love to hear your thoughts on them and my choices 🙂

It’s that time of the week. Here’s another edition of Down the TBR Hole, which is hosted by Lia @ Lost in a Story! This meme is dedicated to uncluttering your TBR pile, going through each book and choosing which one should stay or go.

The Books:

1. Ghostly Echoes by William Ritter

28110857

The third book in a series that I haven’t read yet…nope! Goodbye pretty purple book.

The Verdict: Remove

2. Hatshepsut: From Queen to Pharaoh by Catharine H. Roehrig

1009560

This book has been on my TBR for ages. I added it while I was going through my I-love-all-things-Egypt phase. I haven’t been reading a lot of non-fiction books lately but I really do want to pick this one up eventually. Hatshepsut was such a fascinating woman who was able to rule Egypt all on her own. There’s so much we don’t know about her because her step-son (who took succeeded her) tried to erase her rule from history. I’m totally keep this one on my TBR!

The Verdict: Keep

3. The Hamilton Affair by Elizabeth Cobb

28695340

I was sent this book ages ago for review and just haven’t gotten to it. I really need to because I feel bad not reviewing books that I’ve received for free.

The Verdict: Keep

4. She Wolves: The Notorious Queens of Medieval England by Elizabeth Norton

5087532

Another history book about fascinating women from history! Normally I would be all over this but the reviews are ALL super negative. I watched a documentary series on YouTube with the same title and it was meh. So, while it makes me sad, I’m going to pass on this one.

The Verdict: Remove

5. Black Bird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel

33509076

When did I add this to my TBR?! Giveaway maybe? But then again, nothing about this book sounds like something I would want to read. This is so weird!

The Verdict: Remove

Wooooo 3 more books are gone from my TBR! Have you read any of these books? I’d love to hear your thoughts on them. 🙂

The Books:

1. The Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins

22428707

This book has been on my TBR since it came out. I recently purchased a copy of it (yay for book sales) and I’m hoping to read it sometime this summer. So, it definitely stays!

The Verdict: Keep

2. A Taste of Honey by Kai Ashante Wilson

30197853

This is the second book in a duology (not sure to be honest) but I really want to read it. It sounds amazing and I love the cover!

The Verdict: Keep

3. Daughters of Rome by Kate Quinn

8577314

This is from a period a few years ago when I only read historical fiction books based in ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece. I really, really hated the first book from this series so why is the sequel still on my TBR?!?! Goodbye!

The Verdict: Remove

4. Blood of Wonderland by Colleen Oakes

30166599

I haven’t read the first book so this one needs to go!

The Verdict: Remove

5. Lantern by Chess Desalls

28176158

I honestly don’t remember ever adding this book to my TBR. The cover is interesting but that’s all it has going for it. Ghosts and pranks? Nope. It just doesn’t sound like something that I would enjoy reading.

The Verdict: Remove

YESSSSS for managing to remove 3 more books from my TBR! Have you read any of these books before? I’d love to hear your thoughts on them. 🙂
