Uppercase Box!

Untitled.001

It’s near the end of the month and I received my Uppercase box for May. Again, it didn’t disappoint. It was also Gina’s first box and I was totally mean and teased her with pictures after I picked it up from the post office.

I LOVE tea and especially earl grey tea so I was pretty pleased. The package had this amazing smell and I had to make some right away. It’s totally delicious and amazing!! I hadn’t heard of the book before, but I’m willing to give it a try. I’m trying to expand outside of my usual fantasy comfort zone, so this is perfect for me. I haven’t gone wrong with any of the books from this box in the past and that’s why I’m not too worried about if I’ll like the book or not. 🙂

OwlCrate & Uppercase Boxes

Untitled.001

Yes, it’s late but I still thought I’d post about my OwlCrate and Uppercase subscription boxes!

For those of you unfamiliar with OwlCrate, it is a monthly YA subscription box that features a newly released book as well as 3-4 bookish items that are set around a theme. The theme for April was “Dystopia”. This is what the box contained:

Again, not a book I would have chosen for myself. I have heard a lot of negative things about Flawed, but I will eventually give it a read to judge for myself. After another lack luster box, I’ve decided to cancel my OwlCrate subscription. Next month’s box will be the final one that I’ll receive. I just can’t justify continuing to pay for a box that I’m not totally enjoying. Does anyone else feel the same?

Uppercase is also a young adult book-of-the-month subscription box. You receive a recently published YA novel and some additional book-related items. This month the box (or cloth bag) contained:

I love Uppercase more and more each month! First, the book is signed. It’s honestly not one that I had heard of before, but the blurb on the back makes it sound like something I’m going to really like. And…so much Harry Potter goodness!! The bookmarks are adorable and the quote and totally go up in my classroom. I’m really looking forward to the box next month!

OwlCrate + Uppercase Boxes

I’ve been on vacation and totally forgot to post about my March OwlCrate and Uppercase subscription boxes! Better late than never right?

For those of you unfamiliar with OwlCrate, it is a monthly YA subscription box that features a newly released book as well as 3-4 bookish items that are set around a theme. The theme for March was “Writer’s Block”. This is what the box contained:

  • A custom pack of bookish pins by Bookworm Boutique.
  • Black and white Banned Book Socks from Out of Print Clothing.
  • A 642 Tiny Things to Write About notebook from Chronicle Books. Some of the writing prompts are pretty awesome. I can totally see myself using them in my classroom.
  • A white, Harry Potter inspired quill pen from Kikkerland. I believe other colours were also shipped as well?
  • A hardcover copy of The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner (including a quote print and author postcard).

I hadn’t heard of this book before. It’s also not in the genre I usually read. The description sounds alright. To be honest, I won’t be rushing to read this book anytime soon. I’m not sure how I feel about OwlCrate’s book selections so far. I enjoyed Da Vinci’s Tiger from the December box, but since then have been pretty indifferent about the books I have received.

THIS BOOK! I have been so super excited about Rebel of the Sands. First, the cover. Gorgeous! Second, the plot. It’s a mixture of the Wild West meets the Middle East. There’s mythical creatures, a prince, gun battles…it all sounds wonderful to me. I can’t wait to read it!

OwlCrate + Uppercase Book Boxes

My OwlCrate and Uppercase subscription boxes for February have arrived! I am really happy with the boxes this month…so many pretties!

For those of you unfamiliar with OwlCrate, it is a monthly YA subscription box that features a newly released book as well as 3-4 bookish items that are set around a theme. The theme for February was “Sci-Fi Love”. This is what the box contained:

  • A Lunar Chronicles tote bag featuring the names of popular couples from the series.
  • A wooden TARDIS brooch made by Vector Engraving.
  • A paperback version of H.G. Wells’ 1895 novel The Time Machine by Rock Paper Books.
  • A hardcover copy of The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry which was also accompanied by a signed bookplate and letter from the author.

I was doubly surprised by receiving two books this month! I have never read The Time Machine and The Love That Split the World sounds really interesting. The cover is also gorgeous!

Uppercase is also a young adult book-of-the-month subscription box. You receive a recently published YA novel and some additional book-related items. This month the box (or cloth bag) contained:

  • An exclusive Anne of Green Gables infinity scarf.
  • A signed hardcover copy of Starflight by Melissa Landers.
  • A Starflight bookmark, quote poster and nail wraps.

Last month Truthwitch and now Starflight?! I nearly squealed with joy!! I have had my eye on this book for a while now and the reviews have been really positive. I’m not sure what I’ll do with the nail wraps, but the Anne of Green Gables scarf is so light and soft…I can’t wait to wear it!

Uppercase Box

This weekend was full of book mail goodness! I received my first Uppercase Box in the mail and was not disappointed. Uppercase is a young adult book-of-the-month subscription box. You receive a recently published YA novel and some additional book-related items.

This month the box (or cloth bag) contained:

  • A signed copy of Truthwitch by Susan Dennard (which made me the happiest person EVER!)
  • A Truthwitch poster
  • Sup Nerd? socks by Blue Q (they feature squirrels and I’m in love)
  • A Childlike Wonder Colouring Book by Emma Margaret (an Uppercase exclusive)
  • 2016 YA Quote Calendar by Risa Rodil

I almost ordered Truthwitch when it was released at the beginning of the month and I’m glad I didn’t. It’s been such a hyped book on social media for months, so I am looking  forward to finally reading it.
