Prompt: Pitch a book!
The Assassin’s Curse duology by Cassandra Rose Clarke is one of my favourites. I simply cannot get enough and wish I had more books with these amazing characters to read. Since I sadly don’t, I’m now dedicated to getting others to read and enjoy it as much as I have. Here are some of the many reasons why you should…no NEED…to read these books!
PIRATES! Yes, badass pirates and even better? Badass lady pirates! Ananna of the Tanarau wants her own ship and not to be married off to a man she doesn’t love. The girl can wield a mean sword and wants to be the captain of her own ship. A ship that I would happily join, you know, if I could actually cut it as a pirate, which would be a giant no. And her one-liners? Seriously precious.
MAGICAL ASSASSINS! Oh, Naji is a dangerous, badass dream boat of a man. *sigh* He’s all mysterious and serious assassin on the outside, but melty, social awkward marshmallow on the inside. I. Just. Love. Him!
ROMANCE – it’s there, but slow burning. The build up is done so well done. And bonus? NO LOVE TRIANGLES OR SQUARES OR WHATEVER THEY ARE CALLED! Hurray! The romance isn’t the main focus on the story but it’s a pleasant addition.
MYTHICAL CREATURES are always awesome. This book has a manticore (props for showing love to this long ignored creature of awesomeness). I LOVED the manticore. Perfect. Hilarious. Can I bring her home? Can I have her as a pet?

Summary Book #1: Ananna of the Tanarau abandons ship when her parents try to marry her off to an allying pirate clan: she wants to captain her own boat, not serve as second-in-command to her handsome yet clueless fiance. But her escape has dire consequences when she learns the scorned clan has sent an assassin after her.
And when the assassin, Naji, finally catches up with her, things get even worse. Ananna inadvertently triggers a nasty curse — with a life-altering result. Now Ananna and Naji are forced to become uneasy allies as they work together to break the curse and return their lives back to normal. Or at least as normal as the lives of a pirate and an assassin can be.
Summary Book #2: After setting out to break the curse that binds them together, the pirate Ananna and the assassin Naji find themselves stranded on an enchanted island in the north with nothing but a sword, their wits, and the secret to breaking the curse: complete three impossible tasks. With the help of their friend Marjani and a rather unusual ally, Ananna and Naji make their way south again, seeking what seems to be beyond their reach.
Unfortunately, Naji has enemies from the shadowy world known as the Mists, and Ananna must still face the repercussions of going up against the Pirate Confederation. Together, Naji and Ananna must break the curse, escape their enemies — and come to terms with their growing romantic attraction.
